Earthen & Lime Plasterwork
The advantages of these plasters include breathability, softness to the touch, beauty and workability. They are versatile, easy to repair and made from inexpensive materials. Earthen plaster is a mixture of clay, sand and fiber. The most common fibers used is straw or animal hair. Lime plaster is a mixture of calcium hydroxide and sand. Lime plaster has the property of being self-healing to a limited degree due to the slight solubility of lime.
